Extension?

I've gotten several requests for an extension, so I wanted to make a quick post and ask how everyone felt about that. I wouldn't want to do it if this was an exchange, but I feel like there's a bit more leeway since it's a challenge... What do you guys think? I'm personally fine with extending the deadline -- I just worry that it'll suck for those who are going to be finishing their stories on time.

The extension wouldn't be very long; just till the end of the month instead of the 20th. So, if you're struggling, you'd have ten extra days to finish.

Please let me know ASAP if you have any objections (you can PM me if you'd so prefer). If no one minds, that'll be the new deadline. Absolutely no more extensions after that though, so please don't ask!

ETA: The majority were in favor of the extension, so that's what we'll do -- the new deadline is 23.59 GMT on the 30th of April. Sorry to those of you who are close to or already finished, I hope the extra wait won't be too annoying. You can always spend it writing a second fic for the challenge, if you haven't already done so ;)

Can you not simply open the collection for posting FROM April 20th to the end of the month... then those who've been waiting for some time can post their stories while others still get the extra ten days.

That's a great idea. Since this isn't an exchange, it won't matter that some stories are up and others aren't.

Ah, you mean to reveal the collection on time, but still leaving it open for new works to be added to it? I don't think that's what tarlanx meant, or maybe I just misunderstood their comment... But, in any case, that's the one thing I don't want to do. Due to the nature of the challenge, readers will probably be in short supply as it is -- and revealing the collection before all stories are there will only exacerbate the situation. Most people will probably not remember to come back ten days later to check out the collection again, you know?

Sorry, that is what I meant, revealing the collection on the 20th, but if that's not what you want to do then I'm happy to respect your decision.

You could make a new announcement at the end of the month to remind people.

Oh, but the collection is open for posting (and has been for quite a while now). So you can go right ahead and post your fic whenever you want! If you're having trouble with it, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'll do my best to help :)

I like this idea. It's a great middle ground between those who have finished and want their stories revealed, and those who need more time to get there. Does it really matter if they're all up on the same day?

10 days isn't too much, so I don't mind an extension even if I've already posted my fic. Maybe I'll even try for a second one now lol.

It's fine with me! I fell a bit behind on writing myself. I'm sure I can finish by the 20th, but that will give me some extra time to look it over and polish it up before posting.

Yes please, I would LOVE an extension! I'm still finishing off my ShipSwap assignment :( and though I actually had a fit of inspiration and jotted down something that could be polished into a ficlet for this challenge in case of emergencies, I'd like to to the canon more justice.

The collection closing was supposed to have happened about an hour ago -- I was just keeping it open till I went offline -- but not the actual reveals, sorry! I've mentioned there being a buffer day, both in order to finalize a proper fandom list (due to AO3's new wrangling policy), and in case anyone had a last-minute problem with posting. So the collection will be revealed at 00.01 GMT tomorrow. Sorry about the misunderstanding!

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that :( The collection is going in live in exactly an hour, so I can't give you any more time. For what it's worth, if people are up for it, maybe we can run another round of this sometime in the future. If so, I hope you'll have better luck then!
