Have you already decided what fandom(s) to write for? If so, how about doing a little promoting? :D

We've all chosen tiny obscure canons, needless to say. But by posting here you might be able to entice someone else to give it a try — or perhaps you'll even run into a fellow fan, who can't wait to read your coming fic.

Your promo can be long or short, and contain whatever you feel like. Want to post a couple of intriguing screencaps from a movie? Quote a few paragraphs from a book? Rec the best episode of an anime or a TV series? Talk about why you love your favorite character and/or pairing from your fandom? It's all good; anything goes!

I'm going to write for a video game I've been playing a lot recently, Peglin. It's a fun roguelike brick-breaker game similar to Peggle but with more fighting enemies. It doesn't have much of a story, only the barest traces for a framing device, but that only gives all the more room for fanfic, right?

Imagine a city what an architecture designed to make people happier.

Imagine it's instead driving them mad.

Imagine what it did to its architects, and what one of them would do to save it.

Imagine Mister X.

(Psychoactive architecture, pulp sci-fi, stark expressionism... it has everything except, it looks like, fanfic.)(But if you know of one let me know, my search-fu feels flaky today.)

I'm going to try writing for The Colossus of New York, a 1958 scifi film about a brilliant scientist who dies young, only to have his father put his brain in a robot so as not to deprive the world of his brilliance. The trouble is, the robot has no way of interacting with his wife and son or with the outside world at large. Slowly, he starts to lose his humanity.

I'm gonna write for a most excellent ongoing webcomic, Eclipse of the Son, that tells the story of the Sun and her Hunter, locked in eternal battle--that is, until the Sun is reborn as Sunny, and it turns out both Hunter and Sunny are Very Gay.

Thank you for the promo!! I immediately went to read it and I'm super looking forward to whatever you're coming up with. ♥

(Plus, I'm very much enthralled by the side pairing of Hemlock/Tony, haha. THAT CIGARETTE SCENE. *fans self*)

I’m writing for a short film (15 mins) called The Wilds. It’s a unique take on the horror genre, where a mom has to come to terms with her son’s lycanthropy. If you’re a Doctor Who fan, it stars Nicola Bryant who played Peri!

The book "Nine Days" by Toni Jordan is written from POV of nine different characters in the same family on nine different days between 1938 and 2006 in Melbourne, Australia. One of my students had to study it, so of course I read it. I'm writing another chapter from the POV of someone who had a brief scene in one of the chapters where her mother is trying to set her up with the protagonist.

I've decided she likes someone else instead.

Hey y'all I made the executive decision to completely change my mind. I'm instead writing about Mortigan Goth: Immortalis. It is a short 4-part comic series from the 90s. It has a lot of themes about life, death, and what it means to be human. Though, as a warning it does have some religious themes, demons, and graphic violence. In the 90s, a lot of comic publishers tried to do darker comics and it's definitely visible here. Regardless, I highly recommend it.

https://www.arkadymartine.net/books/rosehouse

Rose/House is a short book by Arkady Martine about an AI named Rose who is a (haunted) house and the woman who her owner leaves her to (who doesn't want to inherit her), and the detective investigating the mysterious death there that the house AI reported to her only because there was a law that AIs have to report mysterious deaths in a specific time frame. It's more a ghost story than a murder mystery, but it's both. It's also science fiction.

You're welcome! I really like his other comics but EotS is absolutely the best so far.

(Puck hinted on Patreon that there'll be a Hemlock/Tony fic at some point when the relevant pages are available to everyone.)

I'm writing for the manga series My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked. It's a Cinderella parody where the main character Miya is the illegitimate daughter of a prominent family. When her mother dies, she is taken in by her stepmother and stepsisters. She expects to be bullied and treated like a servant, but instead they're really sweet (if a bit scary in appearance and manner) and just want to take care of her and dote on her.

I picked Who is Erin Carter? a new netflix mini-series that is ridiculous and over-the-top action film with Erin Carter (a British ex-pat living in Barcelona with her daughter and husband, working as a part-time school teacher, but who has a mysterious past, and is the action star of the series), but also a lot of fun. One of the characters is a woman named Penelope, and she and Erin have many slashy vibes.

Boys (1996)

I'm writing for the movie Boys (1996), specially the ship of John Phillips and John Baker.

This ship was started due to me finding a forum post IIRC calling Phillips "so gay" for Baker, and it just spun off from there.

Boys (1996) is probably most known for being "Winona Ryder's Worst Movie" (according to some people I saw on the internet).

Phillips was so *jealous* of Baker's girlfriend,Patty (played by Winona Ryder) and considered himself Baker's best friend. He so desperately wanted Baker's attention, you can read it as a crush!

I'm writing for the book Black Water Sister by Zen Cho, which has a Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Water_Sister

It's a supernatural horror story that reimagines some tropes in Malaysian fiction wrt ghost stories, Chinese families, and mixes all of that with nice humour. It's about cranky grandmas and supernatural shifts (complimentary) and generational baggage that manages to be somewhat honest and refreshing about it, and if you think that might be your jam it's a good read.

I missed this "promote your fandom" post! D'oh! Anyway, my fic is for the 2014 film Muerte en Buenos Aires/Death in Buenos Aires, a super angsty and slashy Spanish-language (English subtitled) crime thriller from Argentina.

In 1989 Buenos Aires - where chronic, casual corruption is the norm - a wealthy gay man is murdered, and Detective Chavez of the federal police Homicide unit gets the case. The victim's family wants no press or scandal - the victim and his lover were into BDSM. Chavez - jaded and cynical straight, married father of a young son - decides to use the rookie uniform cop, who was first on the scene, in the investigation. What he doesn't expect is his growing attraction to his young protégé - who is learning fast.

Here's the original trailer. I don't know if I can embed it, but I'll give it a shot:

This film is so gorgeously shot and the chemistry between the two leads so obvious, that it's easy to miss the hints and clues sprinkled throughout that foreshadow the shocking ending. I had already seen it numerous times (I own both the Blu-Ray and a digital copy), but I probably rewatched another 15 times while writing my fic -- and yet I still noticed things I had never noticed before! It really bears repeat viewing... or else the ability to not be distracted by the shiny, pretty, sexy.
