Hello, and welcome to the fifth round of Be The First! Based on your requests, two things are new this year: One should be obvious if you're currently reading this, namely that there's now a DW community in addition to the LJ one! Several of you have asked for this, and here it finally is. Please don't hesitate to let me know if I messed up some setting or whatever, as I'm new to having an actual account here myself. Secondly, another request I've gotten more than once is to raise the limit of stories that can be posted by each person. So, instead of the previous two, everyone can now post up to four fics. This is just a trial, though! After the round is over I'm planning on running a poll, asking if you guys want to keep this new amount or go back to old one — or maybe settle for something in between with three?

But aside from that, nothing has changed since the previous rounds. This is still a low-pressure challenge to write a fic, of any length, for a fandom that previously had none. That's it! If you want to take part, just reply to this post :)

Quick rundown: You have two months to write. The deadline is at 23.59 GMT on the 20th of April, and the archive will go live at 00.01 GMT on the 22nd of April. You can submit up to two four stories, as long as they are for different fandoms.

Huh. This sounds intriguing. Going to aim to write something for a series I've requested at least once on Yuletide to exactly no responses - Catriona McPherson's great pastiche interwar detective stories featuring Dandy Gilver: http://catrionamcpherson.com/dandygilver. Dandy herself is a grand character, but I also love these books' neat setting in 1930s Scotland.

I'm thinking the River of Teeth series by Sarah Gailey, which I've requested several times in exchanges but haven't gotten lol And/or there are some comics I love that sadly don't have fic, like Nancy Drew 2018, Plunge, Fairlady, Bitter Root, Goddess Mode, and The White Trees. So many choices!

Do we have to do anything for the fandoms at AO3, or simply wait for them to be wrangled?

Nothing to do but wait, I'm afraid. You could send in a support request if you wanted, but I personally wouldn't bother. It tends to take three months or more to get a reply, and by then the fandom tag will usually have gotten wrangled anyway. But sometimes it does take even longer -- and sometimes there are other issues -- so it's up to you!

I just finished watching the Chinese series Listening Snow Tower and I'm hardcore shipping the secondary romance between the female antagonist and the male hero she betrayed. I'm so glad this is running so I can challenge myself to write fic for them!

Aw, thank you! I must admit I'd have been really sorry to miss the fest, too - I think you've done such a great job with the idea, the running of, the community - it's really, really appreciated. Especially when RL can and does take over! (And honestly, especially at the moment, RL *is* more important. Really glad all's well.)

And it's lovely to see this fest grow, and to see people's enthusiasm. Best of luck as we open!
