This is such a fun idea! I have a fandom I've been wanting to write for but it would almost certainly be me writing for myself because I can't think of a single other person in the world who would read it. I have to think about whether I'm a good enough audience to write for. It's a hookah-smoking caterpillar kind of problem.

This is so much fun! I'm definitely signing up. I'm going to write something for The Deaths of Ian Stone. It's a movie I've been wanting to write something for, for some time, but I haven't ever gone through with it. I feel like I'm basically writing it for myself since it's an Indie movie with no fanfiction out there. I don't really expect anyone else to read it, but being able to be a part of this challenge might help motivate me to finally write something! :D

I've been plqying the "first in fandom" game for ages now. Hell, three quarters of what I write when I'm struggling to keep writing is things that don't have fandoms yet just because it amuses the crap out of me to create new and highly obscure fandoms.

I considered running an exchange with this premise where it'd be done like a fandom book exchange where everyone nominates things they want to see that don't have fandoms and provides a summary of them and you sign up offering to write something based on having read the summaries other people write and found something that looked like it'd be enjoyable new material for you.

If I did ever run something like this, would anyone be interested in participating?

I'm in! My fandom is Aibou (Partners), a Japanese detective drama. I've been planning for a long time to write some fic for it, so this will be good inspiration for me to finally do it!

Also, will you be able to get tags wrangled on Ao3 in time for reveals? They've been finicky recently about how they process new tags for new fandoms when fanworks are unrevealed, which will obviously be an issue here.

I'm not connected to AO3 in any way, nor do I have control over their recent behavior. I experienced this new policy firsthand a few weeks ago, when I took part in an exchange (writing for a fandom that didn't have a tag there). To say that my experience with their so-called support was disappointing and frustrating would be a major understatement. The same can unfortunately be said of the previous time I reached out to them, regarding the recent layout changes. So I'm not too eager to contact them again, especially since I'm certain their answer would be the same. Still, I'll probably force myself to do it -- just in case, and for the best of the challenge.

That said, I did plan for this. First off, I'll make a list here of all fics submitted. I'll order them alphabetically by fandom, and all stories will be accounted for. Secondly, when the AO3 collection goes live I'll make it very clear that they're now oddly unamiable towards small fandoms, and urge everyone to not view the collection via the fandoms listing. Instead, I'll ask that people go through the works page instead -- hardly ideal, but there is the LJ post to fall back on for those who want a fandom overview instead. And that's the best I can do when it comes to this issue, I'm afraid.

I will make a post listing all the fics submitted on the 20th of April, which is when the AO3 collection will go live as well. So you'll need to have your fic completed by then. I'm planning on making check-in posts as well -- right now I'm thinking biweekly, but we'll see.
