Hi there, and welcome to the second round of Be The First! Nothing has changed since last time; this is still a low-pressure challenge to write a fic, of any length, for a fandom that previously had none. That's it! If you want to take part, just reply to this post :)

The FAQ is right here, and I'd be happy to answer any additional questions you might have. The AO3 collection for this year can be found here, and I'll be putting up a fandom promo post in roughly a week (to give you some time to decide what to write for).

Quick rundown: You have two months to write. The deadline is at 23.59 GMT on the 20th of April, and the archive will go live at at 00.01 GMT on the 22nd of April. You can submit up to two stories, as long as they are for different fandoms.

Last year we managed to write twenty-one fics, and my goal this year is to beat that. Let's go for it, guys! :Db

I'm going to give this a try! I'll be writing Danny Dunn (thanks for answering my question on whether that qualified, BTW) and if I have time to spare when I finish that, I might come back and sign up for a second fandom because I have a few in mind.

Ooh, it's been a long time since I read them, but I loved the Danny Dunn series as a kid! I still remember that my favorite book was Danny Dunn on a Desert Island, which I see is available on Kindle, along with other books in the series, so I'll probably go buy some of them. Thanks for reminding me of a childhood favorite, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

That's really cool! Glad to remind you of a childhood favorite. :-)

I don't really remember what happened in Danny Dunn on a Desert Island...well, other than the fact that they're camping on a deserted island, which can kind of be deduced from the title...so it must have been one of the ones I only read four or five times instead of a dozen or two dozen. :-) Trying to decide which one is my favorite...probably "...Scientific Detective" or "...and the Universal Glue".

That's pretty much what happened! Danny, Joe, Professor Bullfinch, and Dr. Grimes all get stranded on a desert island, and the boys have so much fun camping out that they decide they don't want to be rescued. I guess it sounded fun to me as a kid too, although I don't actually like camping in real life! But as a fantasy, it appealed to me, I guess.

I did like Universal Glue a lot, too!

Also, in hindsight, Bullfinch and Grimes seem a lot like an old married couple that enjoy arguing with each other, but that might be due to adult me reading and writing a lot of slash fanfic. ;-)

They definitely argue like an old married couple. I think another one that had a lot of their bickering was Anti-Gravity Paint. Upon looking it up, those are the first two books and the only ones not to have Irene, so I wonder if after Irene was introduced, giving the main characters a trio dynamic instead of just a back-and-forth, the authors felt they didn't need to do quite as much with Grimes.

The ship that always appealed to me for some reason was Mrs. Dunn/Mr. Ellison (the police detective in Scientific Detective). They only have one scene interacting with each other and it's the first time they've met, but I feel like they had chemistry and I don't think they live in such a large town that they would never run into each other again.
