Fandom Promos
2018-03-03 01:17Hi everyone, how's it going? Have you decided what fandom(s) to write for yet? If so, how about doing some pimping? :D
We've all chosen tiny obscure fandoms, needless to say. So by doing a little promoting you might be able to convince someone else to give it a try — or perhaps you'll even run into a fellow fan, who can't wait to read your coming fic.
Your promo can be long or short, and contain whatever you feel like. Want to post a couple of intriguing screencaps from a movie? Quote a few paragraphs from a book? Rec the best episode of a TV series? Talk about why you love your favorite character/pairing from your fandom? It's all good; anything goes!

Date: 2018-03-12 21:48 (UTC)About a year ago I became a fan of Sean Pertwee, first seeing him as Alfred Pennyworth in "Gotham". When looking him up on youtube, I stumbled about a short lived British TV series from 1996 called "Bodyguards". There are only 7 episodes, here is the link to the pilot, the others should turn up at the side then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhKKY4SlLlI
It's a nice little series about bodyguards, as the title says, a new team set up, so they are still learning, and about the different people they have to protect, and I think you learn a thing or two about actually bodygard work, which may not be as glamorous as they show it in movies, especially when it affects their own families. Sean actually had SAS training for this role, which he still can use to this day for doing his stunts, and it's always great when an actor knows how to handle a gun convincingly.
I remember it was midnight when I found this, yet I couldn't stop watching, as I was mesmerized. One of those shows that makes me forgot to breathe. Especially episode 7 when they are in the countryside instead of the streets of London, and have to use all their knowledge to stay alive and ahead of their pursuers. I would have loved to watch more of it, or read any fanfiction, but alas...

Date: 2018-04-17 20:54 (UTC)My story is about the third episode, so it might be best to watch it first to make sense. There's also mentioning of something that happens in episode 2 and involves Ian's own family.
I had watched the first two episodes and then in a comment read how someone loved the seventh, so I jumped straight ahead as I couldn't wait to see the countryside one. It also reminded me of a similar MacGyver episode that is set in the woods. It's indeed fascinating to see them in a bit of fish out of water way, even though they still act very professional.
I love especially the scene at the end when they think they are going to die. Any other series would have had the female bursting into tears and the "hero" comfort her, but here it is Worrell almost losing it. Sean is so good at playing emotions.
Please let me know how you like it!

Date: 2018-04-20 00:02 (UTC)I'm afraid I haven't been able to check out the series yet -- RL has been a mess lately. I haven't even managed to write anything for the challenge myself :(
But it's still on my to-watch list, and I won't forget about it. I'm sure your fic can be a good intro!

Date: 2018-03-21 05:47 (UTC)"Dr. Anna Macy (Elizabeth Debicki) left Kettering when she was just fourteen, shortly after her best friend, Gillian Baxter, mysteriously disappeared. The two girls had been cycling through the forbidden forests outside Kettering when they saw strange lights in the sky. Eight hours later, Anna was found alone, terrified and covered in blood."
It's quite dark and twisty, and it gets weirder as it goes on. It has Reddit threads but I've never found any fanfiction. Apparently they are making a second series but I'd like to write a fic before that happens. It's available on Amazon Prime in the U.S., not sure about other places.

Date: 2018-03-24 17:14 (UTC)What I love about it is how much room there is to play with the aftermath. Murray has a kid and a pregnant wife, and the kids screw with her - so much potential fallout. One of the kids has a failing grandfather who fought the Nazis - what happens to that mostly-broken relationship? As you get to know their backgrounds, you wonder how these kids got to where they are, and what's going to happen to them after this night. It's a life-changing event for most of them, so how do they go on with this new, bizarre experience under their belts? It's definitely eye-opening for Murray, too, and the question is, does he go on as before, or does he try and do something, about himself, his relationship, his position of privilege? There's so much to explore.

Date: 2018-04-15 23:59 (UTC)The challenge fit very nicely into my want to explore one of his most recent: Governor of the Montana Territory, James Buckley Bierce, from the film, The Ballad of Lefty Brown.
The film is a fairly tradition Western, with cowboys and gunfights. The on-screen story is a bit loose and there are lots of ways to slide into the canon. I'm having a lot of fun sorta' living in this frontier frame of mind.
Anyway, back to the fandom - The film was released late last year. It's on USA Amazon Prime (included in Prime) now, and on Demand (for money I think) on DirectTV.
from IMDb - "A thrilling and action-packed Western, The Ballad of Lefty Brown is a story about loyalty, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of justice."
